Descrizione:	Ipotesi ricostruttiva di un gruppo di Homo habilis, immaginando un leopardo che attacca una femmina, mentre un maschio cerca di scacciare la fiera lanciandogli un chopper (sasso rozzamente lavorato, al fine di ottenere un margine tagliente) che stava precedentemente scheggiando. Rispetto a questo disegno, eseguito svariati ani fa, successive analisi dei reperti suggeriscono una maggiore lunghezza delle braccia (facilitando la salita sugli alberi) rispetto a quanto qui ricostruito. Vissuto in Africa centro-orientale (ma alcuni fossili cinesi sono forse da attribuire a questa specie, piuttosto che ad H. erectus) tra 2,4 e 1,3 milioni di anni fa, rimane il più probabile candidato ad una diretta linea evolutiva con noi.
